Who we are

JUST Education Collective is a women-owned grassroots collective rooted in mutual aid, solidarity, coalition building, and collective action.

We believe that the failures of the education system—not the people suffering within it—are the real problem.

Our work supports families, students, caregivers, and educators who are navigating systemic barriers in K-12 education in San Diego county.

We share resources, connections, and advocacy tools needed to mobilize people, expand solidarity, and build a movement for lasting change.

What we do

Mutual aid is not new—it is a long-standing tradition. Indigenous communities have practiced self-sustaining care for generations, a necessity forced upon them by colonial systems designed to impose dependence. Black mutual aid societies pooled resources for public education and essential services when excluded from white infrastructures. Working-class communities have historically supported each other during strikes, ensuring rent was paid and food was on the table. Time and again, mutual aid has shown up in moments of crisis, proving that when institutions fail, people step up for each other.

At JUST Education Collective, we continue this legacy by supporting families and educators through mutual aid-driven advocacy. Our initiatives include:

How we help

Organizing is difficult when you're struggling. We step in where the system fails, ensuring that those facing injustice have the support they need to push for change. Through education, coalition-building, and resource-sharing, we help communities advocate for policies that foster inclusive, just, and thriving schools.

Education should be a tool for liberation, not oppression. Yet, too many students—particularly those from marginalized communities—experience systemic discrimination and harm. Mutual aid is a powerful force—it exposes injustice, challenges inequitable systems, and proves that people coming together can create real change. JUST Education Collective stands in this tradition, helping communities reclaim power and build a more just future.
